I think the fact that it is almost a home movie sort of works in its favor. There are times when you almost feel like you're watching a documentary. You're right, it gets a little long. Though its main accomplishment might be that these guys got it done, and it lives on as a cult classic.

I hope to see his Manson family movie really soon.Dusty https://www.blogger.com/profile/10716220249953555521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-30494453406362988622011-11-08T20:52:25.020-05:002011-11-08T20:52:25.020-05:00Brian: I agree... Apparently the Manson movie really did a number on him because of how long it took to get made and release, if I'm not mistaken. The release that Dark Sky put out is great. I haven't bought it yet because I'm a poor bastard, but I've rented both discs from Netflix on more than one occasion.

rf_13: I figured you'd seen this one already. I'm ashamed to say I haven't watched the short films yet. I do remember Chas. Balun also raving about the ROADKILL: LAST DAYS OF JOHN MARTIN short when it, too, was only available as a bootleg copy. It's a shame Van Bebber didn't go farther in his career. He had/has a great deal of potential.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-31268849453802672602011-11-08T20:02:59.889-05:002011-11-08T20:02:59.889-05:00Thanks, Wes. I highly recommend checking out his other shorts, especially DOPER and ROADKILL (the serial killer one I mentioned in my other comment). I'm sure you can find them streaming on the internet somewhere. Unfortunately I haven't seen the Manson movie yet, but I've been meaning to for a while now. I tried to get it from Netflix, but they sent me the wrong Charles Manson movie.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02153426751208051792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-22134388237777812912011-11-08T16:00:33.089-05:002011-11-08T16:00:33.089-05:00Great choice Aaron. I have to say it took me a few go's to warm up to this, but I think it's a fantastic movie - this really is Cinema at its grungiest and is far more accomplished than the junk Troma put out (and I mean that in a bad way) and godawful DIY stuff like Redneck Zombies or Lunchmeat. You totally summed up the movie it one word - heart, and this movie has a lot of it, and I like the fluffed lines and the bad punches - it ain't no Citizen Kane (and I mean that in a good way). Of the Van Bebber shorts I've only seen My Sweet Satan, which is an interesting little sketch, but there's a great movie yet to be made about the dark underbelly of Death Metal...someone should send Gasper Noé a few Cannibal Corpse tapes... For what it's worth, I think Charlie's Family is an excellent film (and I'm a bit of a Manson scholar).Weshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10502948357255970132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-7094017250327916562011-11-08T00:56:05.235-05:002011-11-08T00:56:05.235-05:00I'm gonna have to check out your post, Brian. ...I'm gonna have to check out your post, Brian.
