Sidney Lumet can be hit and miss but I do like his stagey theatrical stuff I must say... Yeah, grab a copy of Wake In Fright, I've seen it around so it should be easy to locate...Weshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10502948357255970132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-34417274757633921412011-10-10T03:30:03.678-04:002011-10-10T03:30:03.678-04:00Thanks, Wes. The plan is to cover a few of more her films before the end of the month, namely EQUUS and THE SURVIVOR, but we'll see how it goes.

And no, I haven't seen WAKE IN FRIGHT. I really want to but it's hard to come by, at least here in the U.S. I'll probably have to acquire a gray market copy of it, if you know what I mean.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02153426751208051792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2592266676978922940.post-43745819700755174522011-10-10T03:19:01.361-04:002011-10-10T03:19:01.361-04:00Good stuff Aaron, and for my money a tremendous fi...Good stuff Aaron, and for my money a tremendous film. I very much like the way Nic Roeg put this together, the strangeness of it and the way it fits very nicely in with Performance - both films are essentially about the one thing - the clash of two different cultures (Westerners/aboriginals, gangster/rock star). I like the way Roeg doesn't sentimentilize the story - if it was a Hollywood film, you'd have lots of schmaltz about learning to live in harmony with one another etc. I take your point as well about the kids being obtuse about the trouble they're in but I guess they're young and being public school kids have a very English "stiff upper lip" thing going on. I gotta say I love Jenny Agutter in this film, I think she's so sexy... Aaron, have you seen the 1971 outback film Wake In Fright ? You might like this better - about a school teacher marooned in a hellhole Outback town. Very Kafka-esque, and quite extraordinary...Weshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10502948357255970132noreply@blogger.com
